Whether it’s part of your morning ritual, or your afternoon pick-me-up, coffee is the “GO-JUICE” for many hardworking okies. We love coffee, but sometimes the Keurig or the 7-11 cappuccino just doesn’t cut it.  We’ve put together a list of 10 OKC coffee spots where you can grab a hot (or cold) cup of joe, with a friendly atmosphere.

Beatnix Cafe

Beatnix Cafe

Beatnix Cafe

Beatnix Cafe has been a wonderful lunch spot for many years, but is currently being remodeled under new ownership. I met the current owner, Charles, and he showed me the new direction in which they are heading. He informed me that they will be keeping most of the old menu with a few additions.  I’m really hoping that they keep the Thunderbird sandwich and the Cubano!

Beatnix is located at the north side of Midtown on 13th Street, just west of Broadway. Once the state licenses are processed, Beatnix will be open to the public again. The new menu boards are shaped like old vinyl records with diagrams describing all of the coffee choices and educating those new to the java game. Charles also hopes to serve beer and wine, and is converting the east side of the cafe into a watch party room for Thunder games. Keep an eye on their Facebook page to stay in the know for the grand re-opening date!

District House Coffee and Deli

District House Coffee and Deli

Located in the charming Plaza District, the District House offers an open, comfortable atmosphere and a welcoming staff. In an age where most coffee houses are reaching for the modern vibe, District House gives us a throwback to the mid-century modern greats of yesteryear. Much of the seating is arranged in small clusters that allow patrons to relax in what feels like a design conscious living room.  Breakfast is served all day, with the deli proudly serving Boar’s Head products for a wide variety of sandwiches (the spicy turkey was fantastic). They also offer vegetarian options, smoothies, amazing coffee, and a variety of Boylan sodas. Other features include: an art gallery, live music, beer and wine!

Elemental Coffee Roasters

OKC, OK 73102

Elemental Coffee Roasters

Elemental Coffee Roasters

A small-batch roastery and cafe located perfectly between downtown and midtown. Elemental pushes the envelope as far as they can to bring you the perfect cup of java. “You might say our coffee has a mind of its own. It tastes this way one day, but it may taste completely different the next.” While enjoying your Vaquero (one of our favorites), you can watch through the glass enclosure as they roast the next batch of beans.

The space is clean, open and modern; with communal tables as well as individual tables boasting a good view of the roasting room. The always-friendly staff will help you through any coffee questions you might have, or help you choose from their delicious and (mostly!) healthy food options. If you want to dive off into the world of the perfect brew at home, they also offer a wide variety of brew equipment and beans for the road. For the bicyclists, Elemental offers a public bicycle maintenance station and a Spokies bicycle rental rack.  Get on your bikes and ride!

Cafe Kacao is known mostly for their Latin cuisine, at which they are the standard bearers in OKC. Their Guatemalan dishes will have you coming back time and again. But, their coffee menu rivals any other establishment on this list. Hailing from the Sierra de las Minas Biosphere Reserve in Guatemala, these beans are shipped to Cafe Kacao within 48 hours of roasting to ensure freshness and flavor. The atrium holds a colorful mural, while the rest of the space is gorgeous wood and tile work with hanging lights. Come for the smores espresso, stay for the Mosh.
